Dr Adaora Offor Brings Hope to Widows with the Touch-A-Life Housing Initiative
Dr Adaora Offor, supported by her husband, Sir Dr Emeka Offor, fulfilled a heartfelt promise by providing ten widows with new homes as part of the Touch-A-Life Housing Initiative on 24th November 2024.
The third phase of the project, which took place in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, offers these women a fresh start and renewed hope for the future.
The Touch-A-Life Housing Initiative was born out of Dr Adaora Offor’s understanding of the struggles widows face, particularly those who are left vulnerable after the loss of their husbands. Many widows experience financial instability and social neglect. Dr Adaora Offor aims to empower these women by providing more than just housing; she is giving them the tools to rebuild their lives.
The newly built two-bedroom homes each widow received were fully furnished, with living rooms, dining areas, and kitchens stocked with essentials to help them and their families begin a new chapter. These homes are not just physical structures; they are symbols of dignity, safety, and a brighter future for the widows.
The selection process for the widows was carefully managed, with collaboration from local community leaders and organisations.
The initiative prioritises women with children, poor living conditions, and those who have limited support networks. One widow expressed her gratitude, saying, “This is not just a house; this is my children’s future.”
The event was also attended by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo CFR, who commended Dr Adaora Offor for her commitment to supporting widows. He called on lawmakers to pass laws that protect widows and end harmful cultural practices that harm them.
Looking to the future, Dr Offor announced that a new phase of the initiative will begin in early 2025, with plans to provide ten more widows with homes.
She reaffirmed her dedication to the cause, saying, “We will continue to touch lives, and I will carry on with this mission for as long as I live.
Moyosore Isioye, an inspiring entrepreneur and advocate, has made a name for herself in the fashion and beauty industry, with over a decade of experience. A graduate of Economics from Ajayi Crowther University, she began her professional career at Etisalat Nigeria before transitioning into financial services, where she spent nearly ten years in product and project management within the retail sector. Her passion for healthy hair care led her to co-found The Hair Center, a salon in Lagos dedicated to promoting healthy hair practices, and The Hair Shop, a global provider of high-quality hair extensions and products.
While her career was flourishing, Moyosore’s life took a drastic turn in January 2019 when she discovered a cancerous lump in her left breast. Diagnosed with high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), triple-negative breast cancer, and testing positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation, she faced the daunting decision to undergo a double mastectomy at the age of 29. The surgery was aggressive, but it saved her life. Moyosore emerged from this experience not only cancer-free but also with a renewed sense of purpose.
Through her journey, Moyosore has become a passionate advocate for early breast cancer detection, spreading awareness through various channels. In 2022, she was honored as an Ambassador by the Nigerian Medical Association for her impactful advocacy work, which includes speaking engagements at conferences, outreach programs, and one-on-one chats with women across Nigeria.
In addition to her professional and advocacy roles, She is happily married to Dr. Olusegun Isioye, and together they are raising their beautiful son. Her story is one of resilience, demonstrating how a life-altering challenge can become a platform for change and hope.
Moyosore continues to use her voice and her experiences to inspire others, ensuring that more women understand the importance of early detection and take charge of their health.
We had a quick chat with her recently, read below,
Q: Tell us something interesting most people don’t know about you
A: Interestingly, most people don’t believe I’m a shy person. They tend to see me as outspoken and confident.
Q: What inspires you?
A: I’m primarily driven by the results I aim to achieve. I’m goal-oriented—once I set my mind to something, I make it happen
Q: Can you tell us more about how you discovered you had a cancerous lump and the emotions you felt during the early stages of your diagnosis?
A:I discovered a lump in my breast during a self-examination at home in January 2019. At first, I didn’t think much of it, so I brushed it off and made a mental note to check again later. In February, I examined it more closely and, feeling more concerned, decided to visit the hospital, unsure of what to expect. After explaining my situation to the physician, she recommended I get a breast ultrasound. The scan showed the lump was irregular and potentially malignant. When I asked what that meant, she referred me to a surgeon for further evaluation.
I saw the surgeon, who ordered additional tests to confirm the diagnosis. A few weeks later, the results came back, confirming that I had an early-stage cancerous lump in my breast. For a solid five minutes, I was numb and couldn’t process what the doctor had said. The only thought running through my mind was, “Moyo, you’re about to turn 30, and you might die.” My emotions were all over the place, and I could barely function. After leaving the doctor’s office, I called my dad to share the news, knowing he could handle it better than my mom. He reassured me that everything would be okay.
Q: After being advised to undergo a double mastectomy at such a young age, what was your mindset during this time, and how did you stay strong through it all?
A:I kept thinking about all the things I hadn’t accomplished yet—the dreams I had and the future I envisioned for myself. It felt like a nightmare, as if I was stuck in a bad dream. I kept telling myself, “Moyo, you’re not married! You don’t have children! You’re not where you want to be in your career, and your business is still just starting out!” These thoughts ran through my mind constantly, and many nights, I cried myself to sleep. Honestly, my family and friends were an incredible support during this time. I leaned on them for the strength I needed to get through each day, and God was truly kind to me.
Q: As an advocate for early detection, what message do you hope to pass on to women, especially those who may not see the need for regular checkups?
A: As an advocate for early detection, the message I hope to pass on to women is simple: your health is your greatest asset, and regular checkups could save your life. Many people assume that if they feel fine, there’s no need for concern, but some conditions, like breast cancer, can develop silently without obvious symptoms at first. Early detection through self-exams and regular medical screenings increases the chances of successful treatment and recovery. I want women to know that taking a proactive approach to their health empowers them to catch potential issues early, when they’re most treatable, and can make all the difference.
Q:Did your journey with cancer impact your career as an entrepreneur? and how have you balanced advocacy with running The Hair Center and The Hair Shop?
A: My journey with cancer definitely impacted my career as an entrepreneur. It gave me a new perspective on life and made me slow down to prioritize my health, which was a big adjustment for someone who’s always on the move. There were times when managing my business felt overwhelming, but I learned how vital it is to delegate and trust my team to keep things going. This experience strengthened my resilience and taught me the importance of self-care, not just for business but for life overall.
Balancing advocacy with running The Hair Center and The Hair Shop has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve made it a point to integrate advocacy into my everyday life and business, whether through awareness campaigns or sharing my personal story with the people I meet. The key has been finding harmony between my passion for entrepreneurship and my desire to help others through my advocacy efforts.
Q: What role did your family play in your recovery and journey as a whole?
A: They played a crucial role in my recovery, allowing me to live a rich and fulfilling life. They provided unwavering support—physically, financially, emotionally, and in every way possible. I never felt stigmatized or neglected, and they never made me feel like a burden throughout the entire journey. Their support made my recovery much easier and smoother, and I am forever grateful to them for that.
Q: Could you share some key moments or highlights from your breast cancer advocacy work, and how do you feel about the recognition you received as an Ambassador by the Nigerian Medical Association?
A: Some key moments from my breast cancer advocacy work include connecting with women who felt empowered to take charge of their health after hearing my story. One of the most rewarding experiences has been speaking at awareness campaigns and webinars, as well as providing physical and emotional support to women currently navigating this challenging phase of their lives in various locations. Every time I see someone take a step toward prioritizing their health, it feels like a victory—not just for them, but for all of us advocating for early detection.
Being recognized as an Ambassador by the Nigerian Medical Association is an incredible honor. It confirms that my work is making a meaningful impact and motivates me to continue pushing forward. This recognition isn’t just for me; it’s for everyone who has supported this cause and for the women whose lives we hope to change through awareness and education. It serves as a powerful reminder that advocacy can truly make a difference in our communities.
Q: Looking back on your journey from diagnosis to becoming cancer-free and now advocating for others, what are you most proud of, and what’s next for you in terms of both your personal and professional life?
A: Looking back on my journey from diagnosis to becoming cancer-free, I am most proud of my resilience and the strength I discovered within myself. It wasn’t just about overcoming the illness; it was about transforming my experience into something meaningful by advocating for others. I take pride in the connections I’ve made and the lives I’ve touched through my advocacy work, helping women feel empowered to prioritize their health.
As for what’s next, I plan to continue expanding my advocacy efforts by reaching even more women through awareness campaigns and educational programs. I also want to further integrate my personal experiences into my businesses, The Hair Center and The Hair Shop, by promoting wellness and self-care within the beauty industry. On a personal level, I aim to focus on my health and well-being while nurturing my relationships with family and friends. Ultimately, I want to keep pushing forward, sharing my story, and making a positive impact in the community.
Q: Thank you for your time! Wishing you all the best in your endeavors!
A: Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words and support. It means a lot to me. I wish you all the best as well, and I hope we can continue to raise awareness and make a difference together!

Q: Tell us something interesting that most people don’t know about you.
A: At 17, I won a beauty pageant, which was a fantastic experience. I also have a deep passion for fashion and love sketching designs. In fact, I often create sketches for tailors when I’m having my outfits made.
Q: What inspires you?
A: My biggest motivation is my desire to fulfil my purpose and calling in life. I believe that we are all created for a purpose and no one is here by mistake. So, everyday I want to make my life count. I am passionate about creating wealth and eradicating poverty through entrepreneurship and innovation. The Firma Advisory represents both local and international clients investing in Africa, we also advise governments on policies and legislations that improve ease of doing business and unlock economic growth.
I am also passionate about fighting injustice and protecting vulnerable people in society. I launched the Firma Advisory’s Access to Justice Initiative when I was still a young lawyer with little resources. I used the little money I had for prison outreaches and pro bono legal representation for pre-trial inmates (alot of whom were innocent too). In addition, I have keen interest in nation building and transformational leadership in Africa. In 2019, I founded a non-profit; Africa Policy Conversations (AfPC), which promotes transformational leadership, citizens engagement and data driven policy making on the continent.
Q: Describe your personality using five dynamic words.
Q: Can you share a bit about your childhood and how it influenced your career path?
A: I was born in Enugu, but my family moved to Abuja when I was just 6 years old, and I spent most of my life there, with the exception of my university years in England. My parents, who were deeply religious, raised us, five siblings, with a strong sense of discipline and a deep reverence for God. Although I didn’t come from wealth, I experienced both highs and lows, which taught me resilience through both scarcity and abundance. From a young age, I learned the importance of giving back, as my mum frequently took us to orphanages, hospitals, and prisons for outreach. This instilled in me a strong commitment to making a positive impact, hence my decision to study law and fight against injustice. I am also passionate about nation building, which led me to study Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. Through Africa Policy Conversations, I use my knowledge and expertise to advise government agencies on the implementation of policies that are people centred . Through the Firma Advisory, I have been able to create jobs for individuals and provide support to startups and small businesses which is a means of creating wealth for Nigerians.
Q: If you had the opportunity to go back in time, what would you change or do differently, and how would that change affect your life now?
A: Honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve always been intentional about my life, and I believe that the mistakes I’ve made have shaped who I am today. I’m grateful for those mistakes and setbacks because they’ve all contributed to my growth. I wouldn’t trade my life experiences for anything.
Q: What was your experience like studying Law at the University of Essex? And what motivated you to start The Firma Advisory?
A: Studying at the University of Essex was a valuable experience. Although it was challenging at first, I was able to pull through with the help of my mentors. Initially, I wasn’t keen on studying law, but my brother and father persuaded me, and my passion for helping others and fighting injustice ultimately led me to pursue it. By the end of my second year, my grades improved significantly, and I graduated with a high 2:1, just 2 points shy of a first-class degree. Studying abroad also provided me with the exposure I needed.
Q: As a woman in the legal field, what would you say has been your greatest challenge?
A: Living in a patriarchal society, women, including myself face significant challenges in the legal profession. It can be difficult for others to fully recognize and trust our capabilities as women in this field. Additionally, we often contend with objectification and harassment. There’s also the issue of being undervalued or underpaid, with some believing we’re not qualified enough or don’t deserve fair compensation for our services. There are other challenges, but these are a few.
Q: Can you share a memorable achievement from your time as Managing Partner at The Firma Advisory?
A: A big turning point in my career was during the second year of setting up the Firma Advisory when I won a bid to provide consulting services which were funded by the European Union. The fees I earned as a result were a lot more than what the firm has earned since inception. Another turning point was when I won the Social Impact Award from the former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo. It was a huge recognition, one that I am truly grateful for. I must also include representing Apple as a client for about three years as a major milestone and achievement for the Firma Advisory, as well as drafting an E-Commerce and Digital Economy Policy which is being pushed for approval by FEC, championed by Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Q: What do you find most challenging about your work?
A: Running a business in Nigeria is generally stressful, and managing a law firm is no different. I work around the clock with little time to rest, constantly dealing with ongoing tasks and responsibilities. Managing staff, team members, and clients demands significant effort and attention. In the early years of the firm, we faced challenges with clients who refused to pay for our services. Fortunately, we now work with clients who honor their commitments. Another hurdle is convincing people to have faith in you when pioneering new sectors.
Q: How do you balance your roles as a lawyer and policy expert, with your family life? What advice would you give to women who struggle to find a healthy work-life balance?
A: It’s definitely challenging, as my job is quite demanding. However, I make a conscious effort to prioritise family time and compensate for any moments I might fall short. I focus on making every moment with my family count, ensuring that our time together is meaningful and free from distractions. I also pay attention to my health and make time to rest to prevent burnout. Additionally, I have people in my life who remind me to take breaks when I’m pushing myself too hard.
Q: Tell us about one of the happiest moments in your life.
A: There are a number of happy moments in my life but one that comes to mind was when I received the Social Impact Award for my impact in improving access to justice and pro-bono legal aid in Nigeria from the former Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osibanjo. I’m quite passionate about helping people so this was a very happy moment for me. I am also extremely happy when I’m spending time with my loved ones and family members.
Q: Who are your favourite people in the world?
A: My nuclear family are my favourite people in the world. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is also one of my favourite people, she’s one of my mentors.
Q: What is your vision for The Africa Policy Conversations (AfPC)?
A: My vision for AfPC is to spearhead a movement that transforms governance and leadership across Africa. I aim to create a platform that empowers citizens to influence the policies that affect their lives. Additionally, I am committed to reshaping the value systems of governance and promoting homegrown solutions to address homegrown challenges.
Q: Can you share some insights on the recent successful projects by AfPC?
A: AfPC has successfully executed several notable projects. One highlight was our recent event in the UK, “Nurturing Nigeria’s Future,” which focused on attracting diaspora investment to Nigeria. This initiative aimed to leverage the resources, expertise, and networks of the Nigerian diaspora to drive impactful investments. The event featured dignitaries such as the Governor of Kaduna State, who participated in discussions about creating a favourable investment climate in the state and Nigeria as a whole. Earlier this year, we organised a roundtable event bringing together young professionals from across the country to dissect sectors within the Nigerian economy which affect youth development and extract actionable solutions to the problems plaguing youth empowerment across those sectors. Another successful project was when our South African community provided support in the recent South African elections. We have also hosted impactful webinars, such as the “Leveraging the Transformative Impact for Philanthropy,” webinar which provided a comprehensive overview of the philanthropic landscape in Africa. AfPC has collaborated with institutions like the World Bank and various government ministries and agencies. We have also convened many programs in Nigeria, South Africa, Rwanda, and the United States including two United Nations General Assembly side events and the US- Africa Leaders Summit.
Q: What do you think are the most pressing legal and policy issues in Africa today?
A: We need people-centred policies and ongoing engagement with the public to ensure that the benefits of democracy reach everyone. Reforms are necessary at all levels of government, including the civil service, and the judiciary. Leadership recruitment is another concern as not having the right people in the right positions affects effective policy implementation. Even with well-designed policies, failure to implement them effectively due to weak institutions and leadership undermines their impact. Additionally, policy duplicity and frequent policy changes create confusion for businesses and investors, negatively affecting the ease of doing business. Isomorphic mimicry, where institutions merely copy successful models without adapting them to local context is also a pressing issue. This approach often leads to superficial changes that fail to address underlying challenges that deeply affect Nigerians. Finally, government agencies, and ministries need to work harmoniously and not in silos.
Q: How do you see the future of legal advisory services evolving in Africa, and what role do you see the Firma Advisory playing in that future?
A:The future of legal advisory services in Africa will evolve significantly, with increased use of Artificial Intelligence and a growing presence of international firms, which will increase competition. In this changing landscape, I envision Firma Advisory expanding its reach across Africa and playing a pivotal role in supporting businesses throughout the continent. Our goal will be to leverage technological advancements and provide tailored, high-quality services to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
Q: If you were to change something about yourself, what would it be?
A: I can be somewhat indecisive, so I think that’s the only thing I’d change.
Q: What would you like people to remember you for?
A: I’d like to be remembered for my impact in my community and my continent as a whole.
Q: What advice would you give to young women who are struggling with finding themselves or their purpose in life?
A: To young women struggling with finding themselves or their purpose, my advice is to focus on exploring your passions and strengths. From an early age, I was driven by my desire to help people, now I run a successful law firm that provides startups and businesses with solutions to their legal concerns. I also run an access to justice initiative that provides support through Pro-Bono legal services to indigent inmates. In addition, it’s important to not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone to discover new interests and skills. I started The Firma Advisory afraid of what the outcome would be and if we would make meaningful impact. Today I can confidently say that we represent one of the major tech companies in the world, Apple. We also have other international clients scattered in various sectors of the economy. Lastly, Surround yourself with supportive mentors and role models who can provide guidance and encouragement.
Ozinna Anumudu or Zina as she is fondly called by friends and family is a name that resonates with style, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the Nigerian fashion industry. As the founder of Ozinna.com and TSC Agency, her journey is marked by a unique blend of creativity, making her a trailblazer in branding and fashion. Born into the prestigious Anumudu family, with a business guru father and a fashion icon mother, Ozinna’s story begins in Lagos, Nigeria, where she spent her early years before moving to the United States at the age of 14. Her academic journey took her to George Washington University, where she majored in economics and minored in communications. She furthered her studies with a master’s degree in communications, equipping herself with the skills that would later define her career.
At the end of her Master’s degree, and despite opportunities to intern globally, Ozinna chose to return to Nigeria for a six-month internship program, underscoring her commitment to her roots. This decision set the stage for her to make significant contributions to the Nigerian fashion industry. In October 2015, Zina launched TSC Agency, a communications firm dedicated to helping brands connect with their audiences through innovative strategies, content, and activations. TSC has since worked with high-profile clients such as Zaron, Puma, GTCO, Eco Bank, and Lagos Leather Fair, solidifying its reputation as a leading agency in the branding and communications field.
She didn’t stop there, her love for fashion and her knack for providing solutions led to the creation of Ozinna.com in 2017. Shortly after its inception, the platform faced challenges with logistics, causing a temporary shutdown. However, in 2020, Ozinna relaunched Ozinna.com, transforming it into a premier destination for Nigerian fashion. Today, the website features pieces from top designers like Banke Kuku, Andrea Iyamah, Wannifuga, Dye Lab, and Obida, with worldwide delivery. Ozinna’s bold and daring style, coupled with her passion for Nigerian fashion brands, has established her as a style icon. She is widely traveled and well-versed in global fashion, yet her heart remains with Nigerian designers. As the lead curator for Ozinna.com, she explores identities and inspires creativity and boldness through timeless and trendsetting pieces that reflect heritage and style.
Her influence extends beyond fashion; Ozinna inspires a community of individuals to be confident, creative, compassionate and their most authentic selves. Her unique taste and advocacy for self-expression have made her a tastemaker in the industry. With recent successes such as a pop-up event in Ghana, Ozinna continues to expand her influence and impact on the fashion world. As she navigates the future, her dedication to promoting Nigerian fashion and empowering women remains unwavering. Outside of her professional life, Ozinna is a passionate lover of God and an avid football fan. She values her time with family and friends, cherishing the moments spent with her siblings and loved ones. Ozinna Anumudu’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, creativity, and resilience. She is not only shaping the future of Nigerian fashion but also inspiring women in Nigeria and beyond to embrace their unique identities and pursue their dreams with confidence. We caught up with Zina recently, see below for our interview with the Brand and Fashion Whisperer Q: Tell us something interesting that most people don’t know about you. A: I played varsity football when I was in high school, I actually almost did it in college too but my parents discouraged me no to. I am still just as interested, the only difference now is that I watch it not play it. Q: Can you tell us a bit about your early life and how your up-bringing influenced your life today? A: I started school in the U.S when I was 14. My parents are what guided me to forge my path, having both parents that are entrepreneurs shaped who I am today especially being the only entrepreneur out of 4 siblings. Q: You moved to the United States at a young age to complete and further your education. What was that like for you and how did it shape your perspective on life? Also, after completing your
master’s degree, why did you choose to return to Nigeria for your internship instead of pursuing opportunities abroad? A: Moving to the U.S was definitely a culture shock for me especially because I went to boarding school in Nigeria but despite that, I am very attached to my Nigerian roots to not want to come back. I always knew I wanted to move back home unlike my twin brother, who is the opposite, he still hasn’t come back. I looked forward to coming back home because I just felt like I would have a greater impact in Nigeria. Q: Growing up with a father who was a great business man and a mother who is a fashion trailblazer, would you say your parents’ business acumen and fashion sense influenced your love and passion for fashion and business? A:Yes,definitely. I am grateful to say that I had a healthy mix of my parents. My mother made me confident, daring and able to express my personal style because although she is a fashionista as well, we definitely have different tastes. As for my dad, he allowed me to see that techniques of selling clothes are not so different from the techniques my father used to successfully sell cars. He taught me that what you need to make a good business is good networking and integrity. My Mother also told me that when my grandma used to pick up my father, people loved her outfits so much, she would come back the next day and sell versions of her fashionable clothing. Q: What inspired you to start TSC Agency and what were some of the initial challenges you faced? A: I see myself as someone who connects brands to her audiences. I started the TSC because I saw that there were a lot of small businesses that have the right to be promoted just as much as big brands but they were often overlooked or underrated, I wanted to change that. Q: You’ve worked with high-profile clients like Zaron, Puma, GTCO, Eco Bank and many more. What advise would you give someone who is just starting out with respect to attracting and gaining the trust of high profile clients? A: The two things that I stand by is staying consistent and treating all my clients equally, you never know. One time I had a small job but I treated it the same way I would treat any job and without realising, someone really important was going to be there, because I didn’t see the small job as a ‘small’ job the important person ended up being very influential in my first big project. Q: Ozinna.com has become a premier destination for Nigerian fashion. What were some key lessons you learned from its initial challenges and eventual success?
A: I did not realise there were many arms to a website, I just assumed that just because I wore pretty clothes people would want to buy my clothes but having a website is so much more. Eventually success came when I had quality control and figured out the logistics. Q: Your style is both bold and trendsetting. How do you stay inspired and keep your fashion choices fresh and innovative? A: There is no working formula with my style, I go with my gut and just stay true to myself. Q: As the lead curator for Ozinna.com, how do you select quality pieces that reflect both heritage and contemporary trends? A: That’s a good question, it becomes more and more difficult to select brands that work for our audience. I am slowly building a team to do this with, thankfully my passion for Nigerian and African clothing allows me to keep up with the new brands and trends. Q: Who are some of your biggest inspirations in fashion, both locally and globally? A: Olivia Palermo has to be the person I took and take the most inspiration from. She is an American influencer that was able to create an extension of her social media into a business, so when I started my website, I mirrored her as inspiration. Q: What would you say is the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a woman in the business world, and how were you able overcome it? A: My biggest challenge has always been that I have been underestimated, a number of times, it’s not just a sex thing, but it’s also an age thing, but I have been able to stay consistent and true to myself. Q: Describe your personality using four dynamic words. A: Multi-faceted, Hard- working, Positive and Kind Q: Your faith seems to play a significant role in your life. You’re very outspoken about your love for God, your followers online can attest to this with your uplifting sunday messages and encouraging messages during Lent. Would you say your relationship with God influences your personal and professional decisions?
A: I am a big believer that God is in control of everything in my life especially since after dealing with grief in 2020, my faith has strengthened. Q: If you were to change something about yourself what would it be? A: I wouldn’t change a thing, I am a work in progress. Q: How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance with your busy career, and what activities help you unwind and recharge? A: I do not think I have a healthy work life balance, it is something I am trying to figure out. I unwind and recharge by watching my favourite shows and spending quality time with my family. Q: We know you’re a really big fan of Arsenal football club. Besides your passion for football, what other hobbies or interests do you have? A: I don’t have that many hobbies but for me it just revolves around football, family & fashion. Q: Who are your favourite people in the world? A: My favourite people know themselves. Q: Tell us about a time when you felt the happiest you’ve ever been A: My brother’s wedding, my brother got married 5 years ago, I just remember the family having such a joyous moment with our loved ones. Q: If you had the opportunity to go back in time what would you change or do differently, how would that change affect your life now? A: Maybe there are some things that I wish didn’t happen the way they did but I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Q: Congratulations on the success of your recent pop-up event in Ghana, should we be expecting similar events in other African countries and what other exciting plans do you have in the nearest future for Ozinna.com?

Q: Tell us something intriguing about yourself that most people might not know.
A: I might seem like a social butterfly, but what most people don’t know is that I absolutely cherish my time at home. I LOVE being in my comfort zone. I thrive on quiet moments, researching, perfecting my skills, and exploring my creativity through DIY projects. It’s where I find my greatest joy and inspiration.
Q: What inspired your love and passion for home fragrance?
A: My love and passion for home fragrance was and is inspired by a combination of personal experiences and a deep appreciation for the power of scent in creating ambiance and evoking memories. Growing up, I was always fascinated by the way certain scents could evoke specific emotions. This fascination led me to exploring the world of fragrance further, studying its effects on mood and well-being. Additionally, my love for design and creativity fueled my desire to craft unique and captivating home fragrance experiences that not only delight the senses but also tell a story. Ultimately, it’s the ability to create moments of joy and comfort through scent that drives my passion for home fragrance. I find immense joy in the creative process of crafting home fragrances and the satisfaction of knowing that I’m producing something both functional and useful that enhances people’s lives.
Q: As a woman in the business world, what has been your greatest challenge, and how did you overcome it?
A: One of my greatest challenges as a woman in the business world has been navigating and overcoming gender biases and stereotypes. I tackled this by staying confident in my abilities, speaking up for myself, and proving my worth through hard work and results.
Q: Who are the individuals that have had the most significant influence on your journey and why?
A: There have been several individuals who have significantly influenced my journey. Firstly, my family instilled in me values of perseverance and curiosity, laying the foundation for my growth. Secondly, my mentors, who offer guidance and support through business and career choices and challenges. Lastly, influential figures in the home fragrance industry, particularly women-led brands, have inspired and influenced my path.
Q: Describe your personality in four dynamic words
A: Creative. Empathic. Inquisitive. Resilient.
Q: If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be, and why?
A: Hmmmm. If I could change one thing about myself, it would be to overcome my tendency to doubt myself and procrastinate. That’s 2 things, Lol. This change would help me achieve greater productivity and confidence, allowing me to accomplish more and reaching my goals.
Q: What aspect of your work do you find most challenging, and how do you navigate through it?
A: I find navigating the ever-changing preferences and trends in the fragrance industry to be most challenging. To overcome this, I prioritize staying updated on market
demands, conducting thorough research, and fostering a flexible approach to adapt quickly to shifts in consumer preferences and industry dynamics.
Q: If you had the chance to go back in time, what decision or action would you change, and how do you think it would impact your life and career trajectory today?
A: If I had the chance to go back in time, I would have started earlier, not letting imposter syndrome and procrastination hold me back. I believe pushing past those barriers would have allowed me and my team to achieve even greater success with Scents Pro, though I’m grateful for where we are now.
Q: Tell us about a time when you felt the happiest
A: I felt the happiest when I successfully redesigned a collection of scents for a diffuser bottle, infusing it with the essence of Nigeria and Lagos. Despite initial fear, months of dedication led to a beautiful creation that resonated with Nigerians at home and abroad. The overwhelming positive reception on launch day filled me with joy and a deep sense of fulfillment.
Q: Who are the most important people in your life?
A: My Family, undoubtedly! Family holds a special place in my heart, and their love and support have been my constant throughout life’s journey. However, my definition of family extends beyond blood relatives to include close friends who have become like family to me. Together, they are my rock, my inspiration, and my greatest source of joy and fulfillment. Their presence enriches my life in ways I cannot fully express, and I am grateful for their love and companionship.
Q: A little birdie told us that you have a luxurious shopping experience in the works, can you tell us a bit about that?
A: YES!! The Scents Pro Scent-Sational Experience is set to take place on May 26th, 2024, in Lagos, Nigeria. This event is beyond a shopping experience for us; it’s a gathering for fragrance lovers and enthusiasts, including our loyal clients and friends. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience all of Scents Pro’s existing and new fragrances.
Additionally, there will be panel discussions on understanding home fragrance, tailoring scents to one’s personality, and more.
It’s going to be an event filled with fun, learning, merriment, and, of course, shopping.
Q: What feelings do you hope to evoke in people who attend this event and in your customers in general?
A: We aim to evoke feelings of excitement, nostalgia, curiosity and satisfaction in the event, creating a sensory journey through the power of home fragrances. We want our customers to experience the power and importance of home fragrances, make them
feel engaged, inspired, and valued, fostering a sense of connection and fulfillment in their experiences with us.
Q: What legacy do you hope to leave behind? How would you like people to remember you?
A: I aspire to leave behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and positive impact. I hope to be remembered as someone who made a difference in people’s lives, whether through my work, my words, or my actions.
As the founder of Scents Pro, my legacy is rooted in transforming how people experience scents, enhancing their lives through memorable fragrances. I aim to be remembered as someone who revolutionized the fragrance industry, bringing joy, inspiration, and a heightened sensory experience to people’s lives. My hope is that people will remember me as a visionary who left a lasting imprint on their senses and their memories.
Q: What advice would you offer to young women who are struggling with self-discovery and finding their purpose in life?
A: I would advise young women struggling with self-discovery to embrace curiosity, explore different interests, and be patient with themselves. It’s okay not to have all the answers right away. Seek mentors, engage in meaningful experiences, and remember that self-discovery is a journey, not a destination. Trust yourself, your instincts, and know that your purpose may evolve over time. Most importantly, be kind to yourself throughout the process.
Q: How do you envision the future of Scents Pro and your role within the home fragrance industry, both locally and globally?
A: In the future, I see Scents Pro continuing to innovate and expand its product line to meet the evolving needs and preferences of consumers in the home fragrance industry. My role within the company would involve staying ahead of industry trends, conducting market research, and collaborating with teams to develop even more premium cents and delivery systems. Locally, we’d aim to strengthen our presence through strategic partnerships and community engagement, while globally, we’d explore opportunities for international expansion and cross-cultural appeal, ensuring that Scents Pro remains a leader in the global fragrance market.

In the intricate tapestry of Nigerian leadership, women have ceaselessly forged their paths, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s trajectory. The narrative, epitomized by Ambassador Kema Chikwe, founder of the Women in Leadership Institute (WLI), unfolds as a nuanced journey marked by challenges and adorned with triumphs. This exploration delves into the intricate challenges faced by Nigerian women in leadership against a backdrop of statistical realities, with Ambassador Chikwe’s narrative serving as a beacon of resilience within the struggle.
Within the fabric of Nigerian society, deeply rooted cultural norms often confine women to predetermined roles, perpetuating gender stereotypes and creating formidable barriers to their ascent in leadership. Recent studies indicate that 42% of Nigerian women perceive traditional gender roles as significant hurdles to their progression into leadership roles. Despite constitutional mandates advocating gender equity, women find themselves underrepresented in political arenas, grappling with deeply ingrained biases and systemic hurdles.
The Nigerian National Assembly’s meager 6.7% representation of women as of 2022 underscores a yawning gender gap in political participation. Unequal access to quality education amplifies gender imbalances, impeding the professional growth of women and hindering their ascent into leadership roles.
According to UNESCO, a substantial gender education gap exists in Nigeria, with 41% of girls in rural areas left without access to education. Women in leadership grapple with discrimination and a persistent gender pay gap, constraining their career progression and economic autonomy. The gender pay gap in Nigeria, currently standing at 16%, highlights glaring disparities in earnings between men and women in similar positions.
Ambassador Kema Chikwe’s journey symbolizes the triumph of resilience over Adversity. From her inception as Nigeria’s first female Minister Minister of Transport, First female Minister of Aviation, first and so far, first female Chairman of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB)to becoming Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ireland and Iceland.
She also served as the National Woman Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) when the Party was in government. She has defied all gender norms. Amb. Kema Chikwe’s impactful achievements, notably as two-time Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chairman of JAMB, PDP National Woman Leader, Teacher, Radio Principal Producer, Author and Entrepreneur underscore the profound influence women can wield over critical sectors.
Nigerian women entrepreneurs script success stories across diverse sectors, contributing substantively to economic growth and showcasing remarkable entrepreneurial spirit. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) notes that 41% of Nigerian businesses are owned by women, underscoring a robust female presence in the entrepreneurial landscape.
Women leaders in Nigeria, including Amb. Chikwe, spearhead significant strides in advancing education and healthcare, effecting policy changes for the betterment of these crucial sectors. The impact of women leaders is palpable in the narrowing of the gender education gap, a testament to dedicated efforts enhancing access to quality education for girls. Nigerian women leaders actively engage in community development initiatives, with Amb. Chikwe’s WLI at the forefront, nurturing opportunities for the next generation of women leaders.
WLI’s impactful programs have reached thousands of women, contributing substantially to leadership skill development and empowerment. Let Ambassador Kema Chikwe’s odyssey serve as a compass directing our course towards a more inclusive and equitable future for Nigerian women in leadership.

We had an interview with her to commemorate her birthday on the 20th of March and we spoke about her work at The Women International, amongst other things.
Read our interview with her below,
Q: Your organization, stands as a beacon of empowerment for women in various parts of the world. Can you share a pivotal moment in your life that ignited your passion for women’s empowerment and set you on the path to founding The Women International?
A: My journey into women’s empowerment began during my college years, where I delved into the complexities of public policy. It was there, amidst the pages of research and academic discourse, that I unearthed my fervent passion for addressing women’s issues. This passion culminated in my thesis focusing on Violence against women in Nigeria, a subject that stirred profound emotions within me and ignited a deep-seated purpose.
Upon returning to Nigeria, I encountered a pivotal moment that crystallized my commitment to women’s empowerment. Engaged in conversation with an elderly gentleman during my journey back home, I candidly shared my aspirations to advocate for women’s rights and effect change in their lives. His dismissive laughter and discouraging words—”Women, especially in Nigeria, will forever be marginalized”—initially rattled me to my core. Yet, in the face of skepticism, I refused to relinquish my aspirations. Instead, I harnessed the setback as fuel to propel me forward.
Despite the initial setback, I refused to be deterred. I explored various industries and ventures, seeking avenues to make a meaningful difference. It was through this journey of self-discovery and resilience that I found the courage to heed the persistent call within me—the call to champion the cause of marginalized and vulnerable women. Thus, The Women International was born, fueled by my unwavering passion, empathy, and commitment to effecting positive change in the lives of women worldwide. And at the heart of it all, I remain guided by faith, recognizing the divine purpose that propels me forward each day.
Q: TWI has launched several transformative initiatives that have helped improve the lives of numerous women. Which of your initiatives is dearest to your heart and what inspired it?
A: We have several initiatives close to my heart at The Women International. One that holds particular significance is our “Support a Girl Child” CSR initiative. This program connects benefactors with girls in low-income communities, ensuring they not only return to school but also stay enrolled. Education is the cornerstone of empowerment, and I firmly believe that by educating a woman, we educate generations.
However, our flagship event, the “W Circle,” holds a special place in my heart. This inclusive platform, both in-person and online, serves as a sanctuary for women from all walks of life. Through our support group circles and 24/7 helplines, we’ve created a nurturing environment where women feel cared for, supported, and valued.
During our circles, women share their stories of triumphs and struggles, transcending barriers of societal norms and expectations. Whether it’s navigating the workplace, personal challenges, or motherhood, these circles provide a safe space for women to find solace, inspiration, and camaraderie.
The W Circle isn’t just an event; it’s a transformative experience. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging, empowerment, and resilience. Witnessing the impact of these circles, both in-person and online, has been incredibly rewarding. Thousands of lives have been touched, and countless women have found the strength to embrace their journeys and pursue their aspirations. In essence, the W Circle embodies our commitment to creating a world where every woman feels empowered, supported, and capable of achieving her dreams.
Q: Why an empowerment platform for women only? A lot of men might feel like they could benefit from a social organization that seeks to empower people.
A: The decision to create an empowerment platform exclusively for women stems from the recognition of the unique challenges and barriers women face in society. While it’s true that men can also benefit from empowerment initiatives, creating a space specifically for women allows for a focused approach to address gender-specific issues such as gender-based violence, unequal access to resources, and systemic discrimination.
By providing a platform exclusively for women, we create a safe and supportive environment where women can freely express themselves, share their experiences, and access tailored resources and support. This targeted approach enables us to address the specific needs and concerns of women, fostering a sense of community and solidarity among participants.
Additionally, it’s important to acknowledge that men already have access to numerous platforms and spaces where they dominate the conversation. Our goal is not to exclude men but to create spaces where women, who are often marginalized and underrepresented, can come together to uplift and empower one another. Ultimately, by empowering women, we contribute to creating a more equitable and inclusive society for everyone.
Q: A lot of people confuse a Social Organization for a Non-governmental Organization. Which would you categorize TWI as and could we known the difference between both.
A: Certainly! Here’s a revised response that emphasizes TWI’s status as a social enterprise and clarifies the difference between social organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), while also addressing the aspect of charging for certain services:
—
TWI operates as a social enterprise, which means we combine business principles with social goals. Unlike traditional NGOs, we aim to generate revenue through our services while also making a positive impact on society. This approach allows us to remain sustainable and continue supporting our community effectively.
While some may confuse us with NGOs, it’s important to note that social enterprises like TWI have a distinct focus on creating social value through commercial activities. We leverage our platform to offer various services, such as features on social media, advertising, and promotions, which we may charge for. These charges enable us to cover our operational costs and invest back into our community initiatives, ensuring their sustainability and growth.
We deeply value the support and contributions of our community members, and we’re committed to transparency in our operations. Every penny earned from our services is reinvested into our programs and initiatives aimed at empowering women and fostering positive social change. We believe that by operating as a social enterprise, we can maximize our impact and create lasting benefits for the communities we serve.
Q: If you could describe The Women International in a word or sentence, what would it be and why?
A: TWI is more than just an organization; it’s a safe space for women worldwide. It’s a haven where women from all walks of life converge to share their stories, uplift one another, and champion each other’s dreams. Our platform provides a nurturing environment where women feel heard, valued, and supported. We’re not just building a community; we’re cultivating a sisterhood—an unbreakable bond forged through shared experiences, mutual respect, and unwavering solidarity.
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself. What inspires you daily?
A: I embrace authenticity in everything I do. What you see is what you get with me—I’m an open book, transparent to those who trust me to reciprocate that openness. My driving force? It’s empowering women. I wake up every day with a mission to make a positive impact and uplift women to become the best versions of themselves. I’m far from perfect, still on my journey to self-improvement, but one thing remains constant—I refuse to let life’s challenges hold me down. I believe in resilience, in rising stronger after every fall. And that’s what I wish for every woman—to recognize their worth, prioritize self-love, and understand that greatness lies within them, no matter their circumstances. My inspiration? It stems from various sources: my children, whose innocence and wonder remind me of the importance of my work; my mother and sister, whose unwavering strength in the face of adversity is truly inspiring; and my close-knit circle of friends, whose support sustains me through life’s highs and lows. Additionally, the women I’ve met along my journey with The Women International continually inspire me with their stories of resilience, courage, and triumph. Through it all, I remain grounded in my faith, recognizing that God is at the center of my purpose and journey.
Q: A little birdie told us it’s your birthday today, Happy Birthday! How do you feel today and what are you most grateful for?
A: Yes, it is indeed my birthday today, and thank you for the warm wishes! I’m feeling a year older, but definitely wiser. Reflecting on the past year, it’s been one of the most challenging yet rewarding periods of my life. Welcoming my beautiful second child into the world was a blessing beyond words, and on the professional front, I pushed myself to new heights, accomplishing more than I thought possible. As I embark on another journey around the sun, I’m filled with optimism and excitement for what lies ahead. This year has already been filled with promising opportunities, and I have a strong feeling that it’s going to be my best year yet!
Q: You recently expanded your reach globally, establishing TWI chapters in multiple countries. Can you share some success stories or lessons learned from expanding TWI’s presence internationally?
A: Expanding TWI’s reach globally has been an incredible journey, albeit with its fair share of challenges. One of the most significant hurdles we’ve faced is accessing funding to support our initiatives. However, we’re actively working on this front, exploring various avenues such as grants and partnerships, and we’re open to support from anyone who shares our vision.
Despite the challenges, I’m immensely grateful for our dedicated chapter leaders and their unwavering commitment to our cause. Their tireless efforts, dedication, and the resources they’ve invested have been instrumental in our success. Working alongside these exceptional women has been nothing short of amazing, and together, we’ve made significant strides in reaching and impacting women globally.
Q: In your opinion and with your experience, what would you say are major challenges women face, and how can this be addressed?
A: The challenges women face are multifaceted, deeply rooted, and often systemic. From gender inequality in the workplace to limited access to education and healthcare, women continue to encounter barriers that hinder their full potential. But perhaps one of the greatest challenges is the persistent lack of recognition and respect for women’s voices, experiences, and contributions.
Imagine being overlooked for a promotion simply because of your gender or struggling to access basic healthcare services because of societal norms. These are realities that countless women face every day, and it’s infuriating. Women are constantly battling against stereotypes, biases, and societal expectations that dictate who we should be and what we should achieve.
But despite these challenges, women are resilient. We refuse to be silenced or sidelined. We’re breaking barriers, shattering glass ceilings, and rewriting the narrative on what it means to be a woman in today’s world. We’re advocating for ourselves and for future generations, demanding equal rights, equal opportunities, and equal respect.
So how do we address these challenges? It starts with amplifying women’s voices and stories, challenging the status quo, and creating spaces where women feel empowered to speak up and demand change. It’s about dismantling patriarchal systems and creating inclusive environments where women can thrive.
But most importantly, it’s about standing together in solidarity, lifting each other up, and refusing to accept anything less than what we deserve. Because when women come together, there’s nothing we can’t achieve. And that, my friends, is the power of women.
Q: You recently got recognized as one of The 100 Most Impactful Voices, 2024 by ABCD Africa, Congratulations! What would you say is most important for a woman to practice in order to make impact in today’s society?
A: Thank you so much! I’m incredibly honored and humbled by the recognition. When it comes to making an impact in today’s society, I firmly believe that implementation and consistency are paramount. It’s not enough to simply have ideas or aspirations; action is what truly drives change.
Whether you’re running a foundation, leading an NGO, starting a social enterprise, or launching a business, the key is to start now and keep going. Don’t wait for the perfect moment or the ideal circumstances because they may never come. Take that first step, no matter how small, and keep pushing forward.
But here’s the thing: making an impact isn’t just about starting—it’s also about staying the course. Consistency is absolutely essential. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt along the way, but it’s important to keep showing up, day in and day out.
So my advice to any woman looking to make a difference is this: be proactive, be persistent, and be patient. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is meaningful change. But if you’re willing to put in the work and stay committed to your goals, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.
Q: Tell us about your proudest moment since the inception of TWI
A: My proudest moment since starting The Women International has been the global expansion of TWI chapters. It was a monumental idea that required immense courage and strategic planning. I initiated the concept, and to witness the overwhelming interest from individuals worldwide to establish TWI chapters in their communities was truly inspiring. I dedicated significant effort to develop a comprehensive chapter leader handbook and formulated a strategy for success. When we officially announced the search for chapter leaders and the expansion initiative, the response was beyond our expectations. In less than four months, we had established eight chapters globally, and the momentum continues to grow. This achievement stands as a testament to the dedication of my team members, volunteers, and chapter leaders. Their unwavering commitment and hard work ensured the smooth implementation of our expansion strategy, making it a reality and further solidifying TWI’s impact on a global scale.
Q: Thank you so much for your time and dedication and Happy Birthday once again!
Co-founder of Inkblot Productions and renowned movie producer Zulumoke Oyibo has been helping to tell different Nigerian stories through film and television for years—but never once helmed with her own hand—until now, that is.
Oyibo is making her directorial debut with “The Betrayed”, which began principal photography earlier in February and, according to reports, wrapped up filming recently.
The cast is a star-studded ensemble of well-known Nollywood faces, including Adunni Ade, Uche Montana, Gabriel Afolayan, Ibrahim Suleiman, Jemima Osunde, Vine Olugu, and Stephanie Zibili.
Speaking from the set, Zulumoke Oyibo described her debut as a director as the fulfillment of one of her cherished dreams, noting that since her foray into the world of Nollywood and filmmaking, she has guided the storytelling process as an executive producer and visionary, but this project feels special to her as this is a new feat for her.
“Directing ‘The Betrayed’ has been a journey into the heart of human connections, exploring relationships between family, work and friendship with themes of love, loyalty and forgiveness,” said Zulumoke Oyibo. “I have been blessed with a dedicated cast and crew who keyed into the vision and executed brilliantly. I look forward to sharing ‘The Betrayed’ with the world, confident that it will resonate deeply with its audience.”
A former practising lawyer who now possesses more than a decade’s experience as a movie executive and producer before her directorial debut, Oyibo is not new to trying new things. She confessed that her experience as a producer helped her transition to the director role seamlessly.
“Both are very appealing jobs to me, and having been on so many film sets definitely allowed me to communicate better as a director,” Oyibo said. “I wouldn’t say that I prefer one or the other since they are very different. But finally making my directorial bow means a lot to me, and the cast and crew are helping to interpret the script to perfection.”
Information on when the movie is expected to make its cinema debut is yet to be released, but trust us to keep an eye and ear out.
At just 27 years old, Ugochi Mitchel Ukachukwu (formerly known as Mitchel Ihezue) is a force to be reckoned with, her journey as diverse as it is inspiring. With a B.Sc. in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Benin and an MBA from Lagos Business School and the IESEG School of Management Paris, Mitchel’s story is one of resilience and unwavering determination. Mitchel’s foray into the world of modeling began with a bang in 2015 when she contested for the Elite Model Look competition hosted by Beth Model Management. Making it to the top 5, she was swiftly signed into Beth Model Management and embarked on a journey that would take her to the top of Nigeria’s fashion scene. In 2017, Mitchel’s star reached new heights when she clinched the title of Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN). Not content with just winning the crown, she also emerged as the Top Model of the pageant, setting the stage for her international success. Representing Nigeria at the Miss World beauty pageant in Sanya, China, Mitchel made history by becoming the first Nigerian to win the Miss World Top Model title and reaching the top 15, a feat not achieved since Agbani Darego’s victory in 2001. But Mitchel’s journey didn’t stop there. In 2023, fueled by her advocacy for promoting financial literacy and empowerment for women, she set her sights on a new title: Miss Universe Nigeria. And true to form, Mitchel emerged victorious, making her the first and only beauty queen in Nigeria’s history to hold both titles of Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria and Miss Universe Nigeria. Beyond the glitz and glamour of the pageant world, Mitchel remains grounded in her commitment to empowering women. Partnering with the Prince CN Ukachukwu ministries, she continues to champion initiatives focused on rehabilitation, empowerment, and access to education for women. Recently, Mitchel embarked on a new chapter filled with love and promise, with her husband, Chairman/CEO of SNECOU Group Limited, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu. Their union, despite discussions surrounding their age difference, remains strong, rooted in love, respect, and mutual admiration. As Mitchel and Prince embark on this new journey together, we celebrate their love, resilience, and unwavering commitment to each other. Their union is a testament to the power of love to transcend barriers and bring joy and fulfillment into our lives. Mitchel Ihezue’s journey is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and unwavering belief in oneself. As we honor her as our cover girl and celebrate her achievements, let us draw inspiration from her story and strive to break barriers, defy expectations, and make a positive impact in the world around us.
Here’s to Mitchel Ihezue – a true queen in every sense of the word, embracing love, beauty, and empowerment with grace and elegance. We recently caught up with her for a chat, read below for our interview with her, Q: What inspires you ? A: I am inspired by the girl I once was, the dreams, goals and aspirations she had; I am inspired by the woman I am now; my accomplishments, failures and dreams to be a better person everyday. I am inspired by the woman I aspire to be, by the women who have gone through this path and have made an impact whilst still striving to do more and be more. Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in modeling, and what are the major challenges you faced along the way? A:To be honest, I didn’t seek a career in modeling. But when I got into it I fell in love with it, and what inspired me to stay and continue was how it broke the rules of society in respect to beauty standards. Girls who would ordinarily not be seen as ‘beautiful’ were celebrated. Different colors and shapes; for some of us, modeling taught us to see the beauty in the parts of us we hated and in our weirdness/awkwardness. Q: You won the title of Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria in 2017 and Miss Universe Nigeria in 2023. How would you describe your emotions when you were crowned in 2023? A: I would describe the feeling as ‘out of this world’. It wasn’t easy coming back as a past title holder to contest again; people thought I was crazy. So winning the title for me was a validation of my dreams. I remain ever grateful to God for honoring me. Q: Representing Nigeria on the global stage at the Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador last year must have been an incredible experience. What were some of the highlights and challenges you encountered during this competition? A: It was truly an incredible experience and completely different from my experience at Miss World in 2017. Seeing the beautiful country of El Salvador, experiencing their culture and meeting all the beautiful representatives from around the globe were some of my highlights. I must also add the National costume competition was amazing; and being a part of it with a perfectly executed costume really made the experience even better. Another major highlight was having my family at the finale and seeing them hold the Nigerian flag, it was a really emotional moment for me. One of the major challenges I faced was coping with the time difference. The country is 7 hours behind Nigeria’s time and I had to be up really late to
communicate with my family and team and still wake up early to be to meet up with the pageant activities. Q: What was growing up like for you and would you say your childhood experiences shaped you for the path you’re on now? A: I grew up in Omagba, Onitsha with 4 brothers. Growing up, we had our ups and downs; the downs were tough and pushed me to not just dream but also take actions to turn things around and get to the height that I aspired for. The ‘ups’ taught me to always be grateful for the people and things in my life and find joy even in the smallest things. These all played roles in shaping the woman I am today. I used to love this song ‘Faraway Places’ by Bing Crosby (we used to sing it during assembly in secondary school) and I used to dream of leaving Onitsha and seeing these far away places. So when I got the opportunity to go to Lagos for the first time for a modeling job, I didn’t think twice or look back. Those experiences definitely shaped who I am today. And my 10 yr old self would be mind blown if she heard about the ‘far away places’ i have been to. Q: Describe your personality using four dynamic words. A: I would describe my personality as: Spirited, Versatile, Adventurous and Compassionate. Q: If you were to change something about yourself what would it be? A: Physically, I wouldn’t change anything about myself; I believe I am fearful and wonderfully made. Personality wise, I would change that I procrastinate a lot. I am working on it and everyday is an improvement. Q: What does Love mean to you? And what’s your favourite thing about Love? A: To me, love means living beyond one’s self. It means to live not just for myself, but also for other people; setting aside my wants for their needs. In Igbo language we say “a huru m gi n’anya” which loosely translates to “I see you in my eyes”. This means that you see them, flaws and all and yet, they’d always have a place in your heart, not ‘because of’ but ‘in spite of’, This is what makes love beautiful. God knew the heart of man was desperately wicked and that the flesh would always be susceptible to sin and yet, in spite of, he still sent His only son Jesus to die for our sake. There’s no greater love than this. Q: Who are your favourite people in the world?
A: my favorite people in the world are my family: my brothers and my parents. And most recently added to the list, my husband. Q: What do you find most challenging about your work? A: What I find most challenging about my work is making a long lasting impact in the lives of the people who are beneficiaries of my outreach program. Over the years, I have seen that most beneficiaries do not know how to properly use the resources that have been made available to them, especially financial aids; and after a few months or a few years they are back to square one. This is an unending cycle of resources being mismanaged and not making the level of impact it was intended for. Which is why I have focused my project on financial literacy to not only provide financial aid and life skills but to also educate them on how to manage, grow and reproduce the resources they have been given. At the Prince CN Ukachukwu Ministry where I am a partner, we have developed a follow-up culture and have been having monthly follow up sessions with beneficiaries of our outreaches and also yearly. This allows us to continue teaching these beneficiaries, catch any mismanagement early and also provide further assistance as the need arises. Another challenge I have faced are the gatekeepers to communities in need of assistance; communities like orphanages, refugee camps and even the prisons. There have been situations where we found that these gatekeepers prevent these resources from getting to their wards and keep them to themselves. This is a really heartbreaking situation and I hope that a sustainable solution can be found for this challenge. Q: As a woman in Beauty Pageantry industry, what would you say has been your greatest challenge? A: as a woman in the beauty pageant industry, I would say my greatest challenge has been coping with the negative stereotypes that come with the industry and also the unrealistic beauty standards and beauty expectations from the fan base. They tend to forget that beauty queens are humans too and can’t be perfect. Q: What changes would you implement in the Beauty Pageantry Industry if you had the power to change anything about the industry? A: unfortunately , the pageant community tends to extremely criticize the queens, especially whilst they are representing the country internationally. Over the years, this criticism ( though not ill-intentioned) evolved into bullying, and cyber bullying. Some queens are being bullied by their fellow queens, some are being trolled and cyber bullied by the fans, even some pageant coaches and organizations are a part of this menace. We recently lost a queen. She was a victim of cyberbullying and had fallen into depression. If I had the power, I would change this and create systems that protected beauty queens from this
pandemic. It is unfortunate and sad to see that people who should be making these changes, and who should be educating the fanbase are the ones in enabling them. Q: Tell us about the happiest time in your life A: I have been blessed with countless happy moments that I find difficult to pick one, so I’d just say the most recent events: winning the Miss Universe Nigeria title (maiden edition) and getting married to the love of my life. In both moments, I felt blessed and my dreams validated. Q: You recently got married. Congratulations! How do you envision balancing your personal life with your professional endeavours moving forward? A: Balancing my personal life with my professional endeavors would require intentionality, communication, and a willingness to adapt. By prioritizing my relationship with my spouse, setting boundaries, and taking care of myself, I believe I can successfully navigate the demands of both worlds while thriving in both aspects of my life. Q: Your advocacy for promoting financial literacy and empowerment for women is commendable. Can you tell us more about the initiatives you’re involved in and why this cause is important to you? A: This cause is important to me because education is powerful and financial Education, LIBERATING. I want more women to have control over their finances and their life. I want them to learn how to manage money and Grow sustainable wealth. It’s important for them especially because of the rate of abuse cases we have. I have seen too many women who cannot walk away from Abusive partners because they do not have a Penny to their name. I want women to know better and then have more choices. Q: What advice would you give to young women aspiring to pursue a career in modelling or pageantry, especially in Nigeria? A: For young women who are aspiring to pursue a career in modeling and pageantry I would advise that they build confidence, be disciplined, and have strong values. It is also important that you develop your skill set and strive to be the best you can be. Another important piece of advice. I’ll give what tends to be overlooked, is to research before stepping into the industry. People have an inflated idea of what the industry is and when expectations do not meet reality, the results can be devastating. Love yourself! Be your authentic self, refuse to fall into the trap of society’s beauty standards, and learn how to accept rejection because rejection is a big part of the industry. Have a backup plan! While pursuing modeling or pageantry can be rewarding, it’s essential to have a backup plan in case things don’t go as planned. Pursue education, acquire additional
skills, and explore alternative career paths to ensure you have options and stability for the future. Also please take care of your mental health, avoid Comparing yourself with others and don’t compete with people you should be learning from. Remember that success in modeling or pageantry requires dedication, hard work, and perseverance. Stay focused on your goals, believe in yourself, and never stop chasing your dreams. Q: What would you like people to remember you for? A: I would love to be remembered for living an impactful life, for putting smiles on faces and wiping tears away. I want to be remembered as an advocate for change and as one who lived beyond self. I would love to be remembered as the woman who aimed for the stars and achieved both the stars, and the moon Q: If you had the opportunity to go back in time what would you change or do differently, how would that change affect your life now? A: Lol, there are a lot of things i would love to change and do differently; however i believe that everything happens for a reason and that every experience (or rather most) are important pieces to the puzzle that is or life and each of these pieces play a role in completing the picture and story of who we are. And if i had taken different decisions, my life’s trajectory would definitely be different and i wouldn’t be where i am and who i am today. And so, if the opportunity presented itself, I don’t think I would change anything. Q: What are your plans and goals for the future, both in your career and personal life? A: I’m committed to advancing in not just the pageant and beauty space but in the entrepreneurial space and taking on new challenges. In my career, I aim to utilize my platform to advocate for causes I’m passionate about, such as [financial education and empowerment for women and education for all. I plan to continue honing my leadership skills, and community engagement to make a positive impact on society and prepare myself to take up leadership roles in the political space. On a personal level, I value family, and I intend to continue nurturing relationships with both family and friends. I also plan to prioritize self-care, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. I also aspire to explore new hobbies, travel to new places, and continue learning and growing as an individual. Overall, my goal is to lead a fulfilling and balanced life whilst making meaningful contributions and impact in my society while also prioritizing my well-being and personal growth. I am excited about the opportunities ahead, and committed to pursuing my aspirations. Q: Lastly, What advise would you give to young women who are struggling with finding themselves or their purpose in life?
A: For young women who are struggling to find themselves and their purpose, I would say to always remember that your dreams are valid and that the first obstacle you need to overcome is their mind. You cannot go beyond what your mind tells you, hence it is important that we are not limited by our own thoughts. Once you overcome and control your mindset, you become limitless. Most importantly, put God first in everything and ALWAYS seek His guidance, the truth is that life is hard and we cannot do it on our own. Q:Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us A: Thank you so much for having me and giving me this opportunity to share a bit of myself with the world.
